David Mecey

In 1979 David Mecey was hired as a staff photographer at Playboy Magazine launching an exceptional, 23-year relationship. During his tenure at America’s premier men’s magazine David discovered 20 Playmates of the Month, shot six gatefolds (two published), scores of pictorials, and along with his buddy David Chan, worked on every “College Girl” pictorial from 1980 to 2003. And yet it’s David’s work as a freelance photographer that, in many ways, eclipses his Playboy portfolio.

Mecey has over 40 magazine covers to his credit, including four straight years behind the lens at Sport Magazine’s “Swimsuit Issue”. David’s corporate clients include Coca-Cola, J.C. Penney, ABC-TV, American Photo, Venus Swimwear, MGM, Lawry’s and Fuji Film Corporation. His celebrity clients include Denise Richards, Brooke Shields, Rachel Hunter, Carmen Electra, Jay Leno, Michael Keaton, Robert Palmer, Sparky Anderson, Sharon Stone and Vanessa Marcil of TV’s “Vegas”.

The most personal chapter of David’s journey began in 2003 with the introduction of FotoFantasyCamp… a four-day intensive photography course for professionals and serious hobbyists looking to take their skills to the next level. Mecey’s love of his craft and eagerness to share what he’s learned through the years has made FFC one the best beauty and glamour photography course to attend.

Nick Vedros

“I put four sides around an idea."

With a deceptively simple phrase, Nick Vedros sums up three decades of international award-winning photography. Anyone can look through a viewfinder, but there’s nothing simple about Nick’s multi-disciplinary approach for bringing a concept to life:
• Inspired imagination fueled by ingenuity,
• State-of-the-art production resources,
• An innovative studio team of hand-picked professionals, and
• Attentiveness to client satisfaction which is downright addictive.

In the hands of a photographer driven to make every shot his best, it is simple to understand why Nick’s work garners top honors from the Addys, the Effies, Archive International, Communication Arts, N.A.M.A., the Top 200 Advertising Photographers, and the Canon Explorer of Light program. His award-winning methodology attracts blue-chip clients like Apple, Bayer, Capital One, Coca-Cola, DuPont, IBM, Kodak, Microsoft Sony, and Sprint. And keeps them coming back for more.

Inspired Imagination
No one is a stronger proponent for using only the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Yet if you ask Nick, he’ll tell you that technology alone can’t bring an idea to life. It’s imagination that transforms a concept into a memorable visual experience. And it’s the ingenuity of Nick’s “can do” drive that injects even ridiculously challenging concepts with his gold medal brand of emotional impact.

Nick doesn’t take inspiration for granted. With his emphasis on controlling results, he doesn’t take anything for granted. Honing imagination is built into Nick’s daily routine. He consumes three newspapers and a myriad of online updates with his morning coffee before most of us reach for the alarm clock. In between orchestrating 18-hour shoot days, contributing to the ASMP chapter he founded, global lecturing at the behest of Canon and Apple, and supplementing his seventy-five iPod play lists, you’ll find him checking up on an array of passions. Films and Utube, comic book and vintage poster collections, literary quotations and Far Side cartoons; Nick doesn’t put limits on curiosity.

This dedication to craft may explain Nick’s track record for resolving creative challenges-ingeniously. When a solution is evasive, Nick heads for the open road on one of his motorcycles. Inspiration, Nick will tell you, has been known to hitchhike.

Art Brewer

Art Brewer, while renowned as the heavyweight champion of surf photography, also enjoys an extensive career outside the genre. While waves and surfers are his obvious métier, his talent runs, quite literally, much deeper. Be it scuba-documenting the skeletal remains of ditched Japanese Zeroes in Palau for Islands magazine, ramrod ding creative identity packages for Casio, or luring high-speed PWC towards his lens (and face) for a SeaDoo shoot, Art gets the job done with vision, élan, and brutal efficiency..

Over his 35-year career, Art has seen his work—much of it hand decorated and enhanced—celebrated in gallery showings and mainstream publications as diverse as Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Esquire and Playboy. Somehow Art manages to inject an overriding sense of poignancy and smartass fun into his portraits, bringing the beach esprit to the most desperately landlocked denizens.

A child of the ’50s, Brewer grew up in the coastal art enclave of Laguna Beach, California, the heartbeat of West Coast plein air impressionism. An early immersion in the wealth of outdoor images surrounding him helped Brewer bring a fine-arts consciousness to the then-budding art of surf photography.

Brewer began his career as a freelance photographer for Surfer Magazine in the late ’60s and subsequently served as staff photographer, darkroom specialist and photo editor until the late ’80s. Brewer has circled the globe innumerable times chasing the world's best waves and the surfers who covet them. Brewer is distinguished among his peers for his collection of surfer portraits; over three decades acting as court painter for the royalty and comrades of the global wave riding culture.

If a project swims, sinks, floats, or fogs a mirror, Art Brewer can capture it.

Recent awards include a Silver CINDY, and a Silver Apple at the National Educational Film Festival.

Art Brewer is pleased to announce the publication of Masters of Surf Photography: Art Brewer, an oversized, full-color, hardbound monograph from The Surfer’s Journal.
